The Trouble Makers

Create a safer and more efficient process for removing dross pan from Die Cast Machine Deck

A Talk by The Trouble Makers (Honda Precision Parts of GA, LLC, HPPG)

About this Talk

Current Situation: DCM operators in the aluminum processing department have to carry a metal pan across the casting deck and down a flight of stairs in order to dispose of dross that has been collected from the dip well. When full, the dross pan can weigh over 60lbs. Goal/Target: Improve safety to make the current method of disposing dross safer & more ergonomically friendly. Countermeasure: Designed a dross chute that is attached to the DCM decking. It is a two piece system that can be easily dismantled for maintenance/cleaning. The operator uses a hook to pull the dross pan and tips it into the dross chute, eliminating the need to pick up the pan. Result: Improved safety, delivery and associate morale

Created an ergo green process and completely eliminated the need to carry the pan down the stairs.
